All four lanes were closed for more than a week earlier this month as the waters slowly rose and then began to receded. One northbound lane of U.S. 441 across Paynes Prairie was reopened Thursday.

It had been closed because of flooding after Hurricane Irma, but shortly after noon Thursday Gainesville-Alachua County Smart Traffic announced that one lane had reopened.

Now one lane in both directions is open, while floodwater continues to encroach on the outside lanes.
