Dear Byway Partner,
In 2010, a group of community-minded leaders came together to pursue a Florida Scenic Highway Program designation for a 35-mile corridor of state and local roads adjacent to the Halifax River – The Halifax Heritage Byway. Many of you were part of these early efforts and since designation by the Florida Department of Transportation in 2020, many more of you have contributed time and energy to help achieve our mission.
Over time, members have come and gone and recently our number of volunteers has fallen to critical levels, making it difficult to accomplish our work plan and as a result, we are reaching out to you once again. We need our local government partners to reengage and our local advocacy partners to come back to the table as we all, in our own unique ways work to preserve and protect 300+ years of history and bring the region’s story to the community.
We invite you to join our next virtual meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, starting at 2pm (meetings last about an hour). (Meetings are usually the first Tuesday of each month starting at 2pm.) Each meeting discusses timely community topics and strategies on how to advance our mission and work plan. Ms. Alice Giuliani, the new FDOT scenic highway coordinator, will provide a short introduction to the Florida Scenic Highways Program while I’ll provide an update on the Halifax Heritage Byway organization, and our work plan.
We ask that you or your representative please join us on the call to learn more about our efforts to preserve the history and heritage of the Halifax River region of Volusia County.
