Lake Apopka Loop Trail Opening on Green Mountain Scenic Byway

The ribbon cutting and official opening of the 2-mile extension of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail linking it to the Green Mountain Scenic Byway Overlook and Trailhead took place on April 7, 2016 in Lake County.

The new extension links the Overlook with the existing 18-mile Lake Apopka Loop Trail. The trail was a joint project with St. Johns Water Management District and Lake County and their many partners.

The Green Mountain Scenic Byway Overlook and Trailhead, located near Ferndale on CR 455, is an impressive 132-foot tall platform overlooking the forest. The Overlook and trail are great for the many bird watchers who come to spot some of the 370 species of birds that frequent the north shore of Lake Apopka.

The Green Mountain Scenic Byway links the charming towns of Winter Garden and Mount Dora. This Florida Scenic Byway is truly a drive through old Florida with its canopies of trees, rural countryside, farms, hiking trails, nature preserves, and scenic views. The byway supports and promotes trails as a major attraction in the byway region.
