Updated February 2022

The website floridascenichighways.com is run by the Florida Scenic Highways Program with the goal of increasing awareness of Florida Byways worldwide. Florida Scenic Highways is a program of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

This Privacy Statement explains how “we”, the Florida Scenic Highways Program, collect, use, share and store information about individuals (“you”) and your interactions with our website, and choices you can make regarding interaction with the site.

Overview

We may collect and use information about you in a few ways. We receive information directly from you when you send us email, share a photo, complete a form on our Site (such as a survey or photo contest entry). We collect information electronically when you browse our Site.

There are two types of information we may collect – anonymous and personal. Anonymous information is information that cannot be used to identify you individually. We collect anonymous information automatically. Personal information is information that can be used to identify you individually, such as your name, address, email address, or phone number. We collect personal information only when you give it to us. We use only anonymous information to improve our service.

What Information Do We Collect?

You can use our Site without providing us with any information other than anonymous information we collect automatically.

A. Information you provide directly
We obtain information that identifies you personally directly from you. We ask for your contact information (name, street address, email address, and phone numbers) when you enter our photo contest, or contact us for information. We use this information to communicate with you. You are providing this information to the FDOT as they are the sponsors and operators of the program. Any information collected is for the sole use of the program.

B. Information we collect electronically automatically

1. Information about your visit

Our Site servers may automatically record your visits to our Site. Our server compiles a log that records the date, time, browser (i.e., Firefox), device type (i.e., iPhone), operating system (i.e. Android) and originating IP address of each Site page request. Your IP address is not personally-identifiable information. We use cookies to collect the following information about your visit to our Site: which pages you visited on our Site, and how much time you spent on each section of our Site. We may also collect other data about your visit, such as search requests and results. We use this information to track usage of our Site, to measure the number of unique visitors to the different sections of our Site and to help us make our Site more useful. The use of this information is called “analytics.” “Cookies” are data files, which often include an anonymous unique identifier, sent to your hard drive from a website. Cookies can only be read by the party placing the cookie. When you visit the website again using the same browser (Google Chrome or Safari, for example), the cookie allows that website to recognize your computer. Cookies may store user preferences and other information, and allow us to anonymously identify and track users as they move around our Site. Most browsers accept cookies automatically but allow you to disable them. We recommend that you leave cookies enabled so that we can offer you the best experience on our Site. For more information about cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.

2. Information About Your Location

From your IP address, we can tell generally where you are when you are accessing our Site, i.e., which city.

C. Information Third Parties Collect Electronically Automatically
1. Third-Party Cookies for Site Use Analysis: We may use third parties such as Google to help us analyze how people are using our Site. We also use the Google Analytics service to provide us with demographic data about our users, such as age and gender, on an anonymous basis.

D. Opting Out
1. Opting Out of Google Analytics

2. Deleting cookies

To manage or delete browser cookies, please see your browser’s privacy settings.

3. Do Not Track
Some browsers have a ‘do not track’ feature that lets you tell websites that you do not want to have your online activities tracked. These plug-ins are not yet uniform, and can have unexpected effects.
Florida Scenic Highways is not tracking visitors in order to target them with ads, but only to collect anonymous user data to improve visitor experience of the website.

How To Control Cookies

You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish – for details, see aboutcookies.org, www.youronlinechoices.com, or http://optout.networkadvertising.org.

You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services may not work.

How is Collected Information Shared?

A. Personal Information
Personal contact information received by the program and FDOT in any form is not used to target or advertise. Personal information is only used in order to contact contest winners or others who want to communicate with the Florida Scenic Highways Program.
