On October 26, 2024, the Indian River Lagoon Treasure Coast Scenic Highway (TCSH) Committee proudly participated in the 9th Annual IRL Science Festival at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Fort Pierce. This beloved annual event celebrates science, nature, and community spirit along the TCSH, drawing people from all around Florida.

With a focus on the Indian River Lagoon ecosystem, the festival provided an ideal opportunity for the TCSH to connect with the community. Armed with a supply of Florida Scenic Highway Program (FSHP) sunglasses, TCSH brochures, and other promotional materials provided by the FSHP and the St Lucie Transportation Planning Organization, the volunteer Committee team, led by Stephanie Torres, TCSH Coordinator engaged with dozens of students and their parents.

They discussed the TCSH’s mission and the significance of the IRL. The festival offered a variety of family-friendly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities designed to inspire and engage participants of all ages.

The Committee volunteers enjoyed a fun-filled day interacting with over 200 families who visited their information table. Attendees joined in on a delightful seashell painting session while learning about the TCSH and the FSHP. By the end of the day, the organization had connected with numerous event participants, gained new followers on the @IRLTCSH Instagram page, and forged valuable connections with community partners. The volunteers agreed it was a fantastic event that will be added to the Committee’s annual event schedule.
